Details

This is all-in-one tour within the Arashiyama district combining walking, sightseeing train and boat ride. The Arashiyama area is large and there are many interesting but fragemented spots and restaurants. This package helps you to consolidate the best spots of interest and includes all fees and meal costs of the day. You won't go back with regret after joining our hassle-free tour.

Bamboo Forest Path

We will pick you up from the Arashiyama train station early in the morning to avoid crowds in the bamboo grove. As the Bamboo Forest Path is an iconic landmark of Arashiyama, we will visit it right in the early morning so you can enjoy the true peace of the bamboo path, with better photos without crowds. However, not all sections of the bamboo path are crowded. Our guide knows how to walk you through the crowds and find the peaceful section for you to take better photographs.

Sagano SightseeingTrain

Walking out of the bamboo forest path, we will catch the scheduled Sagano sightseeing train that runs between Hozugawa and Arashiyama stations. The train goes through the mountains and along the Hozugawa River. The sights differ in seasons and they are all characterized and enjoyable.

Hozugawa River Boat Ride

We will take the river boat along the Hozugawa River. The Hozugawa River has been supplying Kyoto city with clean water since over 1000 years. Until today, this water supply system is still alive and well. The river is characterized with its huge and strangely shaped rocks carved by eternal streams, wave splashes, and the winding through steep mountains, creating another supply to local and international tourists -- the sightseeing.

The boat ride is cultural, spiritual and enjoyable in all seasons.

Spring is a season of fresh greenery and elegant cherry blossoms. Summer is vibrant with mountain landscape. Autumn is a colorful painted by autumn foliage. Winter shows dry landscape surrounded by dignified silence.

The ride is run by experienced boatmen using traditional techniques to sweep away the harsh yet beautiful nature as it is. This is a luxurious 'boat trip' that invites you to a world of fun, impression and healing in transquility and vibrance.

Kyoto Cuisine & Drinks

After the boat ride, you will feel tired, so we go to lunch with traditional Kyoto cuisine, coffee and snacks, powered by local green tea, red beans, rice cake and Yuzu (Japanese grapefruit). The sitting in the healing environment of Arashiyama adds another notch to the meal.

Temples

There are number of selections of temples and shrines. We will guide you through the most famous temple, Tenryu-ji. Tenryuji is the iconic temple in Kyoto's Arashiyama district, ranking first among the city's five great Zen temples. It is now registered as a world heritage site.

You will visit the gardens and buildings of Tenryu-ji. We will explain the history, religion and architecture of Tenryu-ji while walking through it. The beautiful landscape garden features a central pond surrounded by rocks, pine trees and the forested Arashiyama mountains.

Wooden Houses & Preserved Street from Meiji Period

Walking through the silent path, you will be guided to a traditional street lined by well-preserved wooden houses. Here you will experience the look-and-feel of the Meiji period as a condensed representation of ancient Kyoto. We will bring you to a restaurant which was converted from the traditional machiya (town house). Enjoy an afternoon tea break with historical glimpse of the merchant town.

We will walk you back to the Arashiyama JR station and dismiss for the day. You may find many other Arashiyama tours but you will find ours as the most consolidated and enjoyable.
